Betting the Braves tonight

Atlanta Braves
Chuck James (L) -104 (at BoDog)

Atlanta has been terrible on the road.. but it's Pittsburgh. Braves starter Chuck James has struggled this season in Colorado (where balls fly) and against a good Marlins team (but still got the win). At even odds, I like him tonight verse Tom Gorzelanny who took the lost the first time he faced Atlanta this year.

I'm leaning toward the over on the Marlins game (9.5 at BoDog), but haven't bet it yet and probably won't. Both those pitchers are stuggling...

2008 posted record: 2-1, +0.96 units YTD

Sunday Baseball Bet

St. Louis Cardinals
Kyle Lohse (R) -140 (at BoDog)

The Cardinals are playing at home vs the Astros today. So far both games in this 3 game series have been close. The Cards lost the first game when their closer blew it in the 9th. They then won yesterday off a single in the bottom of the 9th. I don't expect today's game to be as close.

Pitching for Houston is Brandon Backe with a lifetime ERA of 5.64 vs the Cards. Starting for the Cardinals is Kyle Lohse sporting a 3.95 lifetime ERA against the 'Stros.

The real reason I like this game is the season that both these pitchers are having. Lohse has had a great start and doesn't should signs of slowing down. He has the best ERA on the Cardinals (who are 9-5 at home). Backe has started the year with a 4.15 ERA and a 1-2 record playing for a team that's 6-8 on the road.

Good Luck today.

Betting on the NFL Draft & Baseball

Who will the New York Jets take with the #6 pick in the NFL Draft?
Darren McFadden 5/2 (at BoDog)

Darren McFadden says he loves New York and thinks the Jets will take him with the sixth-overall pick. "I feel like if I'm still up there when they're picking, they're probably going to try to take me. Just being around them, getting that vibe from them. Talking to them, I get that vibe." With McFadden being so vocal, I'm not sure any other team will take him before the Jets. Also those teams have bigger needs to address. I think McFadden will be a Jet.

Los Angeles Dodgers
Brad Penny (R) -175 (also at BoDog)

I blame the long rain delay for the Yanks lost the other day. Tonight I'm looking to get some money back on a big favorite. How can you not like Penny at home on a Saturday Night? He's facing the Colorado Rockies and pitcher Mark Redman (L) who has a lifetime ERA of 7.20 vs the Dodgers.

Good Luck.

Betting the Yankees tonight

New York Yankees -104
Phil Hughes (R)

Can you believe that I'm getting the Yanks at even odds tonight (bet at BoDog)? It's because future star Hughes is pitching tonight, and he has sucked so far this year ( 0-3 and 8.82 ERA). But their is a reason that the Yankees wouldn't trade him, even for Johan Santana. This kid is going to be a star, and just needs a little time to get it going.

The White Sox are starting fantasy baseball fraud Gavin Floyd (2-0 and 1.40 ERA). I would expect Floyd to come back to Earth tonight... If you have him on your fantasy team, SELL NOW! He has a terrible history against the Yankees and just has a bad record in general.

As you can tell, I'm expecting Phil Hughes to have his first win tonight...

Good Luck.

2009 Baseball Betting

I still haven't started betting baseball yet, and I'm sure that I've missed some great opportunities.

I'm not playing fantasy baseball this year for the first time in years, and when you don't have to follow almost every team daily, it's really easy to get out of touch with the season. Sure I know the Yanks inside and out, but almost nothing about other teams since last year.

Quick thoughts on this season:
I think that the Tigers will go on a few nice winning streaks this year and make the playoffs.
The Nationals will sucks as always. Betting against them often could be costly (because of the odds), but there should be some good spots to fade this team.
The Yanks are not a sub-500 team. They will start winning regularly soon.

My lunch just got here, so I'm done writing for now... I'll probably start watching the baseball odds tonight, and make an effort to try to get back in the game and win some money soon.

Good Luck.

Linking around...

Looking to bet on baseball? Check out BoDog, the best online sportsbook, poker room and casino IMO.

The Fanhouse is another site that I check out daily. Probably one of the best sports blogs out there.

We went to see a dog at a shelter yesterday, and we'll probably adopt her today from the Mayor's Alliance for NYC. After the shelter, we stopped by DIP for a few drinks. Then ended up back at home drinking Red Strip and smoking a Don Collins Cigar that I picked up the last time I was in San Juan.

This is a picture of the dog from Pet Finder.

Update: We're adopting the dog and picking her up on Monday!

Baseball Betting and March Madness

Watching the Yankees game, and they are getting smoked 5-1 by the Devil Rays in the 6th thanks to Andy Pettitte. It looks like they are going to start the season out 2-3. If I was even thinking about betting bases yet, I would have bet against the Yanks this game. Pettitte had problems in Spring Training, and I'm really not excepting a lot from him this year. That and the Rays were getting +195 (almost 2-1) today... I need to start checking the baseball lines daily now...

Following March Madness? Who isn't? The Final Four teams meet up tonight. Memphis is 2 point favorites over UCLA with an over/under of 134. UNC is 4 point favorites over Kansas with an over/under of 159. All odds are from BoDog (link on right).

At first look, I'm surprised that Memphis is a favorite. Don't get me wrong, I have them winning the whole thing in most of my brackets, but I've heard a lot of chatter this week about a North Carolina vs UCLA final. I've heard so much that I thought the country would be leaning toward UCLA. With Memphis still favored, it seems like the betting community still likes Memphis, and I'm glad. If I was to bet any games tonight, it would be on Memphis... That said, I have too much going on to even watch the game, so I probably won't bet it... I wish these games were earlier.

Top of the 7th and the Yanks are still down, and I'm out.

Good Luck
