This Weekend's Bets - Football and Boxing

That last post was way too political... I might be writing this just to push that one back…

Anyway, just recapping the plays I currently have going this weekend.

Football Bets:
Seattle Seahawks -3.5 -104 NFL Play of the Week
Denver Broncos -4 +104
Record on all posted football bets: 33-19-1, +13.26 units

Boxing Bet:
Erik Morales -103
Record on posted boxing bets: 1-1, -0.86 units

You can see my thoughts on these in previous posts. Not great write-ups this week, I must have been too busy reading headlines. :OP

There might be some more bets to come tomorrow or Sunday, so I would check back before game time.

Good Luck

What the hell is going on with our government?!?!?!

I never write politcal posts... well, I guess I have now…

Anyway, these are some of the headlines that I’ve been reading lately… What the hell is our government doing?

Spying:
Google Rebuffs Feds on Search Requests
SAN FRANCISCO - Google Inc. is rebuffing the Bush administration's demand for a peek at what millions of people have been looking up on the Internet's leading search engine — a request that underscores the potential for online databases to become tools for government surveillance.

ACLU Sues to Stop Illegal Spying on Americans
NEW YORK – Saying that the Bush administration’s illegal spying on Americans must end, the American Civil Liberties Union today filed a first-of-its-kind lawsuit against the National Security Agency seeking to stop a secret electronic surveillance program that has been in place since shortly after September 11, 2001.

Money Management:
BUSH ADMINISTRATION BREAKS RECORD
WASHINGTON, DC -- President George W. Bush and the current administration have now borrowed more money from foreign governments and banks than the previous 42 U.S. presidents combined, which the Blue Dog Coalition in the House of Representatives called “astounding.”

Buffett: Trade deficit could cause 'political turmoil'
RENO, Nev. (AP) - The U.S. trade deficit is a bigger threat to the domestic economy than either the federal budget deficit or consumer debt and could lead to "political turmoil," billionaire investor Warren Buffett warned Tuesday.

What?!?!?
Bush could seize absolute control of U.S. government
President George W. Bush has signed executive orders giving him sole authority to impose martial law, suspend habeas corpus and ignore the Posse Comitatus Act that prohibits deployment of U.S. troops on American streets. This would give him absolute dictatorial power over the government with no checks and balances.

Sports Betting Post #100

Okay. I lied. I'm back, but this is my last post of the day!

Anyway, I found the opening lines for the Super Bowl, and wanted to post it here as reference.

Las Vegas Sports Consultants, the company that dispenses odds to 90 percent of Nevada’s casinos, has been busy updating odds not only for the upcoming games but matchups that might not even take place. Odds and totals are already posted for the Pittsburgh-Denver contest, and the Carolina-Seattle tilt. But what about the Super Bowl that is now just a couple weeks away?

LVSC provided these odds for all four potential matchups set for Sunday, February 5 at Detroit’s Ford Field providing any major injuries. Denver has been installed as a three-point ‘chalk’ over Seattle, with the total set at 49. The Broncos would be a four-point favorite versus Carolina, with the total listed at 45 ½.

Should Pittsburgh advance to Super Bowl XL, the Steelers would open as a 2 1/2-point ‘chalk’ over the Seahawks with a total of 47. Pittsburgh would also entertain favored status over Carolina at 3 ½, with a total of 43 ½.
Good night. Good Luck.

Betting Basketball - The NBA

over/unders are about the only thing I'll bet in the NBA, and for some reason, I'm just not into it this year... Maybe as the season goes on, but by not following it now, I'm not sure I'll want to bet later on... In fact, I'm thinking of changing the description of this blog to read:

My Mission: To bet on sports, win and tell you about it
My Objective: To make you laugh and win tons of money
My Methods: Handicapping football (mostly NFL), baseball (MLB), and sometimes Boxing

At this point, this seems more truthful...

Anyway, if your looking for NBA plays, you should check out the following places that I would go to...
Doing Lines - No not coke (that was the first thing I thought of too) You'll find daily B-Ball picks here
The Sedge Court Journal - Another daily blogger that posts some baskets
The Two Plus Two Sportings Betting forums - Usually some baskeball talk here
Other forums to check out would be Major Wager, Covers, and TheRX. Each have a lot of posters...
Of course, I would go to How to Gamble's Sports Book Reveiw to sign up for a sportsbook :O)

Anyway, that's it for today.

Good Luck.

Correction to yesterday's football post

So far 68% of all the over/under bets on the Seahawks game have been on the over, yet the line has moved down 1.5 points.
This is not the Seahawks game. This is the Denver game, and now 69% of all bets are on the over. Sorry for the confusion...

Good Luck

NFL Playoff Bets - Conference Championships

Game selection is drastically down this time of year. On any given weekend during the regular season, I may only bet 2 to 8 games including over/unders. This week there are only 2 games, yet I’ll probably be betting both sides and both over/unders. Why?

Well, with the quality teams that are matching up here, most would think that they are a coin toss (see Two for the Money), but not this bettor. I’ve done enough playoff betting to know where to hedge my bets this week. And it’s really pretty easy… fade the public.

Seattle Seahawks -3.5 -104 NFL Play of the Week
Seattle had a cupcake schedule this year and won the NFC. Carolina had a cupcake schedule and ended up a wildcard team. Carolina is playing their 4th consecutive road game. That’s a lot of trips for anyone. Seattle is undefeated at home. Look for Seattle to cover.

Denver Broncos -4 +104
I bet this on Sunday thinking that the line might move up. Well I was wrong, and it moved the other way. Anyway, this is my position and I can't move off it now, but if you’re looking to bet this game, expect a better line. I’ve been saying for weeks that Denver was the 2nd best team in the NFL, only second to the Colts who Pittsburgh knock off last week. One might say that with Pitt beating the Colts, they claim the title. I’m sorry, but it doesn’t work like that. Now Denver is the best team left in the postseason. Look for them to cover.

I will most probably bet both unders this week too. I’m holding off until closer to the weekend, as the public loves to bet the over, and I can see these lines only getting better. So far 68% of all the over/under bets on the Seahawks game have been on the over, yet the line has moved down 1.5 points. There is a lot of money on the under of this game, and it could very well turn into a system play just like last week's winner. Either way, I’ll probably lineup on both unders…

Record on all posted football bets: 33-19-1, +13.26 units

Good Luck.

The Free BetGameday Calendar

I got mine today. It's a nice wall calendar from BetGameday that lists all of the sporting events in 2006 on the days that they are played.

I liked to see the VIPRewards scrach off inside. I won 5,000 reward points, and I assume most people will win. Loyalty programs are great!

Michigan Pair Wins Beer Pong Championship

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - A pair of recent University of Michigan graduates are each $5,000 richer for being the best at a national tournament involving a campus drinking game popular among many college students.

Jason Coben and Nick Velissaris are the champions of the "World Series of Beer Pong," which took place earlier this month near Las Vegas. The two beat out more than 160 other competitors to split the $10,000 grand prize. - yahoo news

I probably could have won this in college @ the hight of my beer pong days... hmmmm, beer.

Bet on the Super Bowl?

I opened my first online sportsbook account to bet on the Super Bowl years ago. This is the game that anyone and everyone bets. From office pools to bets between friends, this is the most bet game in America. Why not bet it on the internet too?
For those who don't know bookies, there is always the Internet. The government has not prosecuted individual bettors, but it has gone after Web site operators. - The Washington Post
Every year, I get together with a friend before the game and we draw up a list of every prop bet we can think of on the spot. Some of the obvious ones would be:

the winner of the coin toss
first interception
first touchdown
first field goal
first sack
and the list goes on and on...

Anyway, you end up with like 30 different prop bets that only 1 team can win, and you bet an amount on each prop ($5 to $50, whatever is comfortable). We then flip a coin to see who picks first, and we go down the list and alternate who gets to pick. At the end of it, you end up having somewhere around 30 bets on the game. Of course at the end of it, a lot of them are cancel out each other, but we don't do this to win a lot money. It's just for the fun of betting on the game.

It's the fun on betting on the game, this game, THE game, that draws people to open accounts at online sports books... $5 or $500, it's fun either way.

- The Online Sports Bettor

PS. If your looking to open an account, you should do it soon as it's not as easy to do now as when I first did this. If you live in the US it can initally be a pain as you either have to wire money to fund your account, or transfer funds from your bank to an offshore bank like neteller and fund your account this way. I prefer the neteller method as it is easier down the road because once you set it up, you have that account for life. Just it can take a few days with transfers and set it up. Good Luck!
